Reduce Toxic Burden with Natural Skin Care
Every day you are bombarded with something you should NEVER do again. Your news feeds are filled with lists of things to avoid if you want to be healthy. If you sit and think about it, you could go crazy stressing about every little thing to avoid. The truth is environmental exposures and toxins are everywhere and there’s no way to avoid them all. You need to find the balance between what we can avoid in life and what we can’t. The good news is, there are small changes that can have a huge impact on your health and greatly reduce your environmental exposures and toxic burden on your body.
What can you do?
First of all, it’s important to focus your efforts where it makes the biggest impact on your health. A great starting point is auditing your skin care routine and replacing the commercial products with high quality, natural and organic products. Often people forget about the skin care products used every day but are consumed by eliminating other small, inconsequential ingredients or items from their life. Your skin is the largest organ of your body and it’s capable of absorbing the ingredients from the products you put on it. This process isn’t difficult and is affordable when you learn to make a few simple products. You can use the money you save to splurge on products that you can’t or don’t have time to make, like a beautiful artisanal bar of soap.
Now, think about how many times you and your kids wash your hands. Check your hand soap and you’ll see a whole list full of unnecessary and possibly harmful ingredients. Triclosan, parabens, and artificial fragrances to name a few. One of my favorite starter recipes is simple foaming hand soap. Replacing commercial hand soap is simple, easy and won’t stress you out. By adding in a few calming essential oils such as bergamot or lavender it can help calm you down.
